‘The most beautiful human deed, is to be useful to others’

Sophocles claimed that “The most beautiful human deed, is to be useful to others”. This aphorism conveys the vision of Gruppo Alessandra Armellini, which operates with the belief that creating value for the territory is not something that only pertains to the construction world, as it must necessarily also include the world of social solidarity.
OUR COMMITMENT
An expression of this sentiment is the Group’s collaboration with the association of volunteers La Lampada dei Desideri. Located in Rome’s Magliana district, the association was established with the aim of creating a space that can serve as a reference point for all people with disabilities in the area.
Within the Association, the activities offered are completely free of charge and they areaimed at fighting marginalization. To achieve this, the association supports and promotes inclusion and social integration processes by way of activating paths aimed at improving the person’s autonomy as well as its communication skills.
The Group has actively collaborated with a number of projects by La Lampada dei Desideri. First and foremost the creation of a web radio course aimed at providing professional training for children with disabilities. Such course would offer them the necessary skills to work for a radio network, in terms of programming from a technical point of view, for the creation of broadcast contents and ultimately for the hosting of actual radio shows.
Another project currently undertaken by the centre is Andiamo avanti con il cuore, i.e. “Moving forward with the heart”, a collective writing workshop operating in accordance with Don Milani’s approach which is aimed at creating a series of children’s books. The children are also engaged in activities that develop their motor skills and coordination, with courses in cooking, painting and music.
In addition to cooperating with La Lampada Dei Desideri, throughout the years the Group has embraced a number of social solidarity projects by the most varied entities. Such projects included supporting local hospitals, collaborating with humanitarian organizations in supporting healthcare facilities in Somalia, as well as providing help to missionaries from the Central African Republic to build schools in Bangui.
Gruppo Alessandra Armellini has recently contributed to the Comunità di S. Egidio, for the progetto Scuola della Pace, i.e. the “School of Peace project”, intending to consolidate such collaboration in the future.
